Forward deployed engineering

Forward deployed engineers who embed with your team and remove the bottlenecks

Forward deployed engineering services place software engineers inside your team and operations, where they build and adapt production systems next to the people who will use them. Safock offers them to operations-heavy companies that need AI and automation running in daily work but have no engineers to spare. Our engineers embed on-site or remotely, find the bottleneck, ship the fix and train your staff to run it.

/ The problem

What this fixes

  • 01

Requirements get lost between the vendor and the floor

The people who know the process talk to a project manager, who briefs a developer who has never seen the work. What ships solves a slightly different problem.

  • 02

    Pilots never reach production

An AI demo impressed leadership six months ago. It still runs on test data because nobody had time to connect it to real systems and real users.

  • 03

Your operations team has no spare hours

The managers who would adopt a new system are the same people keeping today's operation running. They cannot also write specifications and test builds.

  • 04

    Contractors wait for tickets

Hired developers do what the backlog says. Nobody is looking for the bottleneck the backlog does not mention.

/ What we build

Forward deployed engineering, built for your systems

  • 01

    On-the-ground discovery

Engineers sit with the people doing the work, watch the process, read the data, and write down where time and errors go.

  • 02

    Embedded build sprints

Short sprints inside your operation, with a working demo each week, built with and tested by the people who will use it.

  • 03

AI agents and automation in production

AI agents, workflow automation and internal tools deployed against your live systems, with human approval steps where the stakes call for them.

  • 04

Integration with what you already run

Connections to your ERP, CRM, email, spreadsheets and messaging, so new tools fit the routines your staff already follow.

  • 05

    Team enablement and training

Hands-on training for the staff who will own the systems, from engineers whose team has taught 30,000+ students.

  • 06

    Handover

Documentation, code in your repository, and a clear owner for every system before the engagement closes.

/ How it works

The detail behind it

What a forward deployed engineer does

The model was popularised by enterprise software companies that placed engineers directly with customers. Those engineers wrote production code, but they spent their days in the customer's environment, learning the operation and adapting the software until it fit. The title stuck because the engineer works at the front line, close to the people and the data.

At Safock, forward deployed engineering means an engineer, or a small team, joins your operation for a defined period with one goal: get specific systems working in daily use. They talk to the warehouse supervisor and the finance lead as often as to your IT team. They notice the spreadsheet everyone depends on and the approval that always stalls, and they fix those first.

How forward deployed engineering services differ from staff augmentation and agencies

Each model fits a different need, and it helps to compare them on who decides what gets built.

  • Staff augmentation adds developers to your team. Your managers write the tickets and direct the work, so the result depends on how well the backlog describes the problem.
  • A project agency agrees a fixed scope, builds mostly from its own office, and delivers against that scope. It suits work that is well understood before it starts.
  • A forward deployed engineer owns an operational outcome inside your business. They find the bottleneck, propose the fix, build it, and stay until your team uses it.
  • FDE as a service suits problems that are clear in outcome but unclear in detail, which describes most first AI and automation projects.

What an engagement looks like

Every engagement starts with scoping. We agree the outcomes, the systems in play, who on your side the engineers report to, and whether they work on-site, remotely or a mix of both. Scope, milestones and pricing are set in the proposal before anyone starts.

During the build you see a demo every week, with working software from the first sprint. Engineers keep a running log of decisions and open questions, so leadership can follow progress without sitting in every meeting. Security is a default throughout, with access granted per system and removed at the end.

The engagement closes with handover. Your team gets documentation, the code in your repository, training for the people who will run each system, and a support period of 30 days to 3+ months. Long-term maintenance is available if you want it.

Who forward deployed engineering suits

It fits operations-heavy SMEs and mid-size firms in Pakistan, the GCC, the US and the UK that have a mandate to use AI and automation but no in-house engineering team with time to do it. It also suits companies with an engineering team that is fully committed to the core product and cannot spare people for internal operations.

If you already have a detailed specification and a clear scope, a fixed-scope build through our custom software development service is usually a better fit. Cost for an FDE engagement depends on the number of engineers, the length of the engagement, on-site requirements and the systems involved. A fixed quote follows discovery.

/ How we work

From first call to a system your team runs

  1. 01

    Discovery

We start with your workflows, goals, and constraints, so we solve the problem you actually have.

  2. 02

    Proposal & architecture

A clear scope, timeline, milestones, and system design, with honest pricing before any build starts.

  3. 03

    Agile delivery

Short sprints with regular demos, so you see working software early and can steer as it takes shape.

  4. 04

    Launch

Deployment, optimization, and security hardening are included. Nothing ships unless it is safe and secure.

  5. 05

    Support & growth

30 days to 3+ months of support after launch, with long-term maintenance available as you grow.

  6. 06

    Your team, enabled

Documentation and training so your people can operate and extend the system on their own.

/ FAQ

Questions buyers ask us

What is FDE as a service?

FDE as a service means hiring forward deployed engineers from an outside firm instead of building that function in-house. Safock engineers join your operation for a defined engagement, work alongside your staff, and ship AI and automation into daily use. When the engagement ends, the systems, code and knowledge stay with your team through documentation and training.

How is this different from hiring a contractor?

A contractor usually works from a backlog someone else writes. A forward deployed engineer is accountable for an outcome, such as cutting approval delays or getting an AI agent into daily use, and spends time with your operations staff to find what is blocking it. They propose the work, build it and make sure people adopt it.

Do your engineers work on-site?

They can work on-site, remotely or a mix of both, and we agree the arrangement during scoping. Safock is based in Austin, Texas, and works with clients in the US, the UK, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Pakistan. Early discovery tends to benefit most from time on-site, while build sprints often run well remotely with regular check-ins.

How long does an engagement last, and what does it cost?

Both depend on the outcomes you want, the number of engineers, the systems involved and any on-site time. Some engagements focus on one process, others cover several departments. We set scope, milestones and pricing in the proposal, and give a fixed quote once discovery is complete, so you know the commitment before the engineers start.

How do you handle access to our systems and data?

Engineers get access per system, with the narrowest permissions the work needs, approved by a named person on your side. Credentials stay in your accounts and secrets manager. We log changes, keep production and test separate, and remove all access at the end of the engagement. Data residency questions, including Saudi PDPL for GCC clients, are planned during scoping.

What happens when the engagement ends?

Your team receives documentation, code in your repository and training for the people who own each system. A support period of 30 days to 3+ months follows handover, and long-term maintenance is available. Teams that want deeper skills can continue with corporate AI training through Safock Academy.
