A bilingual magazine platform that student editors run on their own

Hamqadam is a student-led digital magazine from Pakistan, publishing in Urdu and English across more than 40 categories, from current affairs and education to technology, economics and youth. Safock built a fast, responsive platform on Next.js and Sanity CMS. Editors now publish and manage content themselves, without a developer.

01The challenge

A large, bilingual archive that had to stay simple

Hamqadam publishes a wide range of writing, and the platform had to make it easy to read and easy to run. It needed to:

  1. 01

Organise a large archive across 40+ categories without clutter.

  2. 02

Show Urdu (right-to-left) and English content properly on one site.

  3. 03

Let non-technical editors and student writers publish on their own.

  4. 04

Keep pages fast and visible in search.

02The solution

Next.js in front, Sanity behind it

Safock built a responsive Next.js front end with optimised images and fast page loads, and set up Sanity as a headless CMS for posts, authors, categories and monthly magazine issues.

  1. 01

HomepageFeatured stories, a latest feed, an editorial section, and category and author highlights.

  2. 02

DiscoverySearch and category navigation, so readers reach a topic quickly.

  3. 03

ContributorsA Become a Writer page that brings in new student writers.

  4. 04

CommunityA discussion forum and contact pages.

  5. 05

Search and sharingMeta tags, plus Open Graph and Twitter preview images.

  6. 06

Utility pagesA privacy policy, terms of use and a site map.

03The outcome

A magazine that grows without a developer

Hamqadam's editors publish new stories, issues and categories on their own, with no developer involved in daily updates. Readers get a smooth experience on phones and desktops, in both languages.

The platform is built to take on new issues, writers and categories as the magazine grows.

About this project

Can editors publish in Urdu and English without a developer?

Yes. Editors manage posts, authors, categories and monthly magazine issues in Sanity, a headless CMS, and the Next.js front end shows right-to-left Urdu and English on the same site. No developer is involved in daily publishing, so new stories, writers, issues and categories go live from the CMS.
